The Forked River Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Past President John (Jack) Flynn on July 2nd. Jack, father of Ex-Chief Kevin Flynn and Deputy Chief Brian Flynn was a member of the department for 36 years. As a life member he served as President and Trustee.

FORKED RIVER, NJ - At a recent Fire Fighter One Graduation Ceremony held on Thursday, June 23 at the Ocean County Fire/EMS Training Center, Chief Kevin Flynn and Safety Officer Martin Abramovitch of the Forked River Fire Department presented their shields to Fire Fighter Michael Schwab and Steven M. Abramovitch.

Forked River Volunteer Fire Department to Bolster

Fire Prevention Efforts with FM Global Grant

FORKED RIVER, N.J.—The Forked River Volunteer Fire Department has received a US$2,000 fire prevention grant from FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers.

FM Global representatives presented the award to Chief Kevin Flynn at the Forked River Firehouse located on Parker Ave. in Lacey Township. The award will be used to assist with pre-fire planning to efficiently collect and track data related to local community buildings. The information will help the fire service respond in an emergency situation.

Because fire continues to be the leading cause of property damage worldwide, during the past 35 years FM Global has contributed millions of dollars in fire prevention grants to fire service organizations around the globe. Locally, the company has awarded grants to a number of New Jersey-based organizations.

“At FM Global, we strongly believe the majority of property damage is preventable, not inevitable,” said Michael Spaziani, manager of the fire prevention grant program. “Far too often, inadequate budgets prevent those organizations working to prevent fire from being as proactive as they would like to be. With additional financial support, grant recipients are actively helping to improve property risk in the communities they serve.”

Through its Fire Prevention Grant Program, FM Global awards grants quarterly to fire departments—as well as national, state, regional, local and community organizations worldwide—that best demonstrate a need for funding, where dollars can have the most demonstrable impact on preventing fire, or mitigating the damage it can quickly cause.

12-27-10 Mutual Aid to Barnegat - Sweet Jenny's Structure Fire

On December 27, 2010 the Forked River Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Sweet Jenny's Restaurant in Barnegat Township. Engines 6031, 6041 along with Tanker 6008 and Ladder 6015 responded to the scene. Master streams from Engine 6031 and Ladder Truck 6015 were used to assist in extinguishing the fire. 12-19-10 Car Fire on Spruce Street

On December 19, 2010 the Forked River Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Spruce Street. Chief Kevin Flynn arrived on scene to find a fully involved vehicle with arcing powerlines on it. The crews from Engine 6031 and 6021 resonded to the scene and awaited JCP&L to disconnect the powerline before extinguishing the vehicle.
